Zakari Saye‘s visit to Burley in April 2017
Zakari is the boy who started the link by sending letters and drawings. (How it all began )
After Zakari finished school in Téréli he
went first to the Catholic Mission School in Pel and then onto Segou. Here he passed his Baccalaureate examinations and gained a place at Medical School in Bamako.
(Zakari visits Burley in 2001 )
In February 2009 Zakari qualified as a
doctor. Burley-Téréli Friendship Trust invited Zakari to come to Burley to celebrate his success.
(2009 visit )
Zakari decided to specialise in surgical oncology and went to Senegal to train. In April 2017
it was possible for Zakari to visit and to see how oncology services are organised at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Manorlands Hospice. He was so impressed by the doctors’ organisation of his observer-ship - everything in which he expressed an interest was included in the comprehensive programme.
